Glenn: Thank you very much for the DLJ analysis of AMZN. I am anxiously awaiting your thoughts on the analysis when you have time.
One thing that strikes me in the analysis is the assumption that only AMZN has the ability to implement this unique business model. I just cannot imagine retailing giants like Wal-mart will sit back and watch
AMZN make all this money without coming up with a viable competitive plan. The DLJ analyst makes it sound like the war is over and AMZN has been declared the victor. It surely sounds IAW this analyst that BKS and
BGP are not even going to make an effort to compete with AMZN in the on line arena. Never the less very interesting reading. It provides some understanding as to why many investor think AMZN is a sure winner.

Glenn,

Read the DLJ post and agree with the authors financial analysis, however where's part 2?

The high capitalization and the threat of competition is the threat to the current price. They really don't touch those topics.

Glenn, re the DLJ fluff piece:

"...Amazon will then contact that individual, confirm the mailing address, and send a gift-wrapped package with tender
words from the giver included."

Right: I'll give you a gift, if you do some of the work. That's how much I care. I don't have TIME to "get involved" in the petty details of gift-giving.

"The idea, of course, is to expand per-user purchase activity as it simplifies the process of giving gifts to a wide range of people. In other words, it will increase the number of presents sent for any occasion, which in turn increases the revenue Amazon generates from that customer."

Well of course. You all send away for the perfume sets, cologne sets, etc that have the flashy ad inserts in your VISA statement, right? You just know that watch is a high quality time piece, and what a bargain price. Oh yes. Amazon is onto something new here. And you all thought you were just buying a book! Wrong. Like a good Amazombie, you're going to buy your Mother's Day gift, your Father's Day gift, your Valentine's Day gift, AND your Secretary's Day gift from Amazon.com, right??? Don't you dare say no; you'll spoil the "business model" and make those analysts look foolish down the road. Think about how much Amazon cares about your needs! Think about how many clever gift suggestions they've given you over the months, all for free!

Oh you'll buy all right. Or else. And who cares if it arrives on time! If your loved ones and/or friends don't get over it, they're not real friends.
