In case some of you missed the action on Monday it was a rather eye opener. I have spoke with the leader of a "think tank" that has been accumulating Medinah shares over the last year. He and his group own 8.46 million shares and looked to round it off to ten million by 1/10/99. He and the analyst that he works with have been looking forward to Canada's Boxing Day on 12/26 for several weeks. There anxiousness was to test the theory that the Canadian houses were the obvious "problem". On Boxer Day, the Canadian Houses were closed, and US markets were open. If his groups calculations are accurate and the short position is between 14 & 18 million shares, and all of this being done thru Canadian houses because of the legal loop holes...so obviously Boxer Day would be an accurate test of this theory. For those of you that watched the trading it was a very weird situation...No sellers. Little tiny buy orders took out the offers easily. It was very nice to see this action and to see what could be done when the "thumb" wasn't around. The "test" worked!
He went on to comment on how certain members of his group that are large money managers are thinking of exploiting a newly created niche in the market of beating up short sellers by utilizing the communication channels recently opened up with the advent of the internet and company threads on vehicles such as SI. Shareholders can now unite and strategize against these "bandits" that here to fore had a free ride in destroying good and bad companies alike. (Take IKAR post for example)...His group is using Medinah as a test case for this new tact. He mentioned that the attorneys in his group are pounding the table in an effort to call in and register all certs. This apparently is the single most important step in the process. He described the Medinah scenario as a sling shot that has been pulled back further and further over the last 18 months. He thought the first bit of positive news would release the sling shot and the market would go well past fair market value based on the news. The triggering event could be a positive Chile decision on the Churamatta properties, drill results, a deal on the placer, a deal on the Andacollo properties (undisputed), production of the Catan vein ore, a hostile or non hostile takeover by a 1 of 3 majors, a listing on a European exchange, cutting a deal @ Santiago,......
One comment that surprised me was that he said one of the geologist in his group thought the Las Dos Marios might be sexier than the Alto LiPangue...I also thought the opposite....I guess drill results will tell the tape!!! He told me to watch Argentina Gold and think of it as a template for Medinah. Argentina has educated his group on what can happen and has shown who the players are in the current mining scene, especially in South America. He sees majors pouncing on any undervalued junior that has the goods.....
