Hi Dorine,

So what else is new? Of course Dell is a channel for various vendors, but these channel guys love to complain because Dell's channel is direct to the customer (by-passing them).

Considering the volume of business and the customer service inherent in "virtual integration" it would be very surprising if companies like Microsoft didn't give LAR status to Dell.

Hi Dorine,

Dell filling in and fleshing out. There will be some overlapping as the "new and redefined marketplace" emerges.

Alliances may very well be the key to market share and future growth.

With Amazon.com moving toward selling software online, can Dell be far behind?

OT- OT

Dorine: What's the matter with this guy? You know? <g>

Thanks for that link,great find.

"Dell's participation is not an accepted thing in the LAR community," says Howard Diamond, CEO of Corporate Software & Technology, a top Microsoft LAR. "At the [Microsoft] Reseller Executive Summit in April, it was a big deal. A few weeks ago in a meeting with Microsoft, it came up again. Dell is aggressively selling software in the marketplace against us."

Dorine, this is a re-post of an article from mid November. Dell's a big factor in the channel, I would guess.

MD named exec of the year by Computer Reseller's News. A channel publication!

Our top choice this year likely will prove a controversial one.
Michael Dell has appeared on several of this newspaper's Top
25 lists in the past, but he has never made it to the top
spot--until now. But when you survey the major news events of
the past year--changing industry business models, the growing
emphasis on customer service and inventory cost controls, the
rise of channel assembly, to name just a few--there is little
doubt that Dell and his fast-growing Texas computer company
have had a major impact. More so than any other executive this
year, Dell and his manufacturing vision have prodded many
competitors to adjust their operations and improve efficiency.

The article concludes with
And some pundits say Dell actually has figured out the secret
of utilizing the channel for adding value in terms of service and
support, while playing down the channel's role in other areas.
As one Microsoft executive told a channel player last year:
"Why don't you guys just unilaterally call Dell a part of the
channel and declare victory?"

Dell's strategy may be the opposite: Recruit service providers
into the direct model and declare victory.

So even the channel is buying Dell???

Regards
Stewart
PS: The article is dated 11/15, but I just found it, so if it's already been posted, I apologize.

Dorine, OT - re: GEND ... thanks. I had never heard of this co. until you suggested a look when we were both discussing SKYM. I bought quite a bit between 5 3/4 and 7 1/4. Obviously, seeing the stock open at $15+ today was a very pleasant surprise. The DELL board helps me out once again! Good trading.
