My understanding is that the Index funds must buy Thursday because that is the day AOL is officially added to the list. And they can not go into the end of the year without a fully indexed fund, because that is what they advertise.

As far as AOL moving up or down next Monday, who knows. There might be tax selling next week, but if you look at AOL's end of the year performance the last several years there has not been any appreciable moves, other than its continuing to go up.

Why would Vanguard show their hand and tell everyone exactly when they would be buying....I heard this somewhere else.

I doubt that they would try to manipulate the market or price. ggg
