I really don't if you are asking for a prediction to show me later is wrong. I know I can't predict. I do have sympathy for the snake-bitten crowd. It is a mania of the first order that who knows when, how, why it will break.

However, I can react and buy puts when it is too high. I have never bought index puts. But 20% down from current levels? I dunno. That is my weakest point on options is the how close to the money versus the premium. I invite any regulars to share their thoughts on this subject. I should be getting, not giving advice in that area.

But back to the original premise, if it's too dam*** high, buy puts in a disciplined program :-)
