AMD chip prices to go underwater?

news.stocksmart.com

DEC 29, 1998, M2 Communications - Intel Corp has decided to reduce the prices
of its new and existing Celeron chips. The chips will now cost almost the same
as the K6-2 chips of its rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). According to CMP
Media's Computer Retail Week, it remains to be seen what AMD will do, because
it has earlier pursued a policy of keeping its prices 25% below Intel's.
Meanwhile, Intel has brought forward the introduction of its new 400MHz
Celeron chip, and it will now be released in January together with the 366MHz
Celeron chip, instead of in April. Computer Retail Week thinks that the reason
for the early introduction could either be that Intel is ahead of its
production schedule, or that it is worried about competition from AMD and
Cyrix.

Srini,
If any chip is secret it's the Katmai...not the K6-3. The best kept secret about the K6-3 is it's release date.
