Bear Down Re STA

Bought some of that today. CNBC & the NYSE are still trying to figure out why the stock ran today .. here is what I've found so far:

Starter seems to have launched an internet site in addition to the 31 retail outlets they have.

starter.com

A while back they warned that earnings will not be all that good because of the NBA strike .. however ..

messages.yahoo.com.

You've basically hit the root of the problem of the whole licensed product industry. Who takes the risk of work stoppage and player trades? The leagues never have and never will. It's easy to say you don't buy into the "if I don't someone else will" defense, but this is the reality of the situation. Case in point is the NHL on ice deal. Starter and Nike showed fiscal responsibility to not sign the deal based on the inflated value the league was putting on it. Yet two other companies were dumb enough to sign.
As for the WCW deal, the retailers I have spoke with are excited for the product. WCW merch was second to NFL in holiday sales. WCW fans spend the bucks!
While I think their management problems are far from over, this deal is the first good move they've made as far as trying to become less reliant on greedy leagues.

If the above is true about the WCW they could be about to come out with an upside earnings surprise.

When word hits about the net site this one could run pretty good.

Well we can hope but the volume is what matters and it is drying up..so not too bad considering what it could have done..
