>>What great service does AOL provide? ... I just don't get it that they are any different from say Earthlink.<<

okay, james, we agree AOL is a company, not God on earth.

so let's cut to the chase, since you believe Earthlink is as good a company as AOL: what should AOL be valued at? And ELNK?

regards
paul

>>AOL could be replaced by many, what is so special about AOL

It's called customer loyalty. AOL has 14 million customers, and about 12 million of them would be totally lost if they had to give it up, install new software, and find an isp. It's the easiest way to get on-line, which is the reason I just installed it on my 81 year old mom's Christmas computer. Once you start using it, you are loathe to leave, despite busy signals, slowness, etc. Switching to an isp is the last thing the typical aol user thinks about doing.

I will tell you a main difference ,do you have kids?,cause my kids {6}of them, love it,they can get around easy, and can communicate with there friends thru instant messages etc..,and kids are making up more and more of this internet market, and will continue now that PC prices have come so far down,my kids have had several of there friends switch over to aol now also.I personally think for the next 2-3 years this is a stock to own and keep accumulating,i now have 3 accounts with aol and pay the year in advance,1 home and two business locations,I bet we will see an announcement stating aol adds over 1 million new suscribers over the holiday season, and lets not forget about the DELL deal just announced ...Its going to be volatile grant it but the end result will continue to be a stock that outperforms the s&p and dow hands down, and the multiplication factor of the splits is mind boggling!!!....JMO,....EZ
OH yeh its also now the #1 provider in Britain also, and adding countries as we speak..

<< AMD couldn't take over, IBM or MSFT would have to fill the gap, AMD
has been making empty promises for years. >>

AMD comes the closest to fulfill the needs for chips. MSFT makes software and IBM does not make microprocessors. AOL is a ISP, with Netscape acquisition it will provide IIS and browser software, it is also in e-tailing etc. etc. It is clearly ahead of the Internet wannabes.
