Indian scheme is no different than any other currency speculation...except in this case it might lead even to greater appetite for Gold in India and by proxy in neighboring countries...The key to the debate IMO is not how much surpluss Gold Euro banks have , but how much is already sold short...8000? 14,000? There is so much secrecy that it is obviously hard to be sure..at any rate 10,000 tons may be very small number evenin 1999 if right circumsrtances come about (Asian recovery, Midle East war and so on) surely in 2-3 years..
