Kimberly....I'm back from Holidays..whatever happened to "Kim's Daily Picks" concept??...thought it was a great idea....anyone have thoughts on the day for VVTV (Internet Home Shopping Network)?? See notes below:

VALUEVISION INTERNATIONAL INC. (VVTV) 13 1/2 +7 1/4. Direct marketing and television home-shopping network company is one of the major winners this morning after the company announced that its electronic commerce sales continue to surge at a far greater percentage pace than its television sales. Given the emphasis placed by the market players to e-commerce and the projected impact it is expected to have on future operating results, this was all the company need to say to cause its stock to more than double at the open. While the stock has come off its intraday high of $15 13/16, it continues to hold on to more than a 115% gain. The fact that the stock has seldom traded much above $5 during the past twelve months seems irrelevant. In fact, not since late March of 1996 has the stock traded above $ 8 1/2. Today's news that ValueVision had pre-Christmas December sales gains of 70% and that its sales were led by its electronic commerce sales is the driving force behind today's price gains. This trend in sales is significant in that VVTV has had a problem posting consistent quarterly earnings in the past year, although sales have grown by more than 36% since 1997, yet are currently lagging last year's pace during the first nine months of its fiscal year. If e-commerce is going to be the way the company generates the bulk of its sales, depending on how its promotes and advertises its products, one should expect the cost of generating sales to decline overtime, adding to its bottom line.
