There's no privacy in cyberspace.
Those using 1024-bit encryption would disagree with you. However, you are refering to the sale of information. Most on-line services will not divulge your information without your approval. There is usually a box to check as to whether you want your information divulged. Even then, the most you would suffer is a barrage of spam, which is penalty for being on the internet to begin with. Nothing worse than junk mail. In fact, sale of mailing lists is every bit as ubiquitous as what happens on the internet.

I follow you as far as market forces, but the privacy concerns seem a bit paranoid.
