Camprobber:

Recent temperatures have definitely been making ice around here. Low of minus 42 degrees C last nite. However as a measure it should be noted that the short 4 mile long ICE road across (NW to SE) Yellowknife Bay(located on the north coast of that huge inland sea known as Great Slave Lake) to the Dene Community of Detah is just being put in today. This date has apparently shattered the previous record for latest date that the road has been put in by about 10 days, (previously the 19th Dec.). So..... suffice to say we're making hay, oops I mean ice. The ice roads will be in soon, the same as they are every year, and the goods will be going out and coming back from the great northern diamond fields. However, there is no doubt that the late start from the unseasonally warm temperatures will shorten the Ice Road Season somewhat. What will be interesting is the construction of a number of spur roads off the main route to various other properties.
Extensive recon is currently being conducted on the route to determine ice thicknesses. Preparations are underway to begin construction. We'll keep ya posted.
