These guys have trading computers faster than ours, they OWN the market makers. It can simply gap down 50% one day and they will be a billion, a trillion, richer.

Well, if you really feel that way, you should not be in utilities. You should be in Prudent Bear. But BEARX makes AOL look like a solid, conservative, low beta holding.... sorta like a utility :-) Of course, it is down close to 50% over the last five years.

So maybe a mattress would be the answer.

So simple. After all, most of the money is in 401Ks and won't be missed.

You're forgetting the power of the Fed. Don't fight the Fed. Heck, the money pumps could be turned on in a jiffy. And if everything goes to hell in a handbasket, you could have than handbasket full of internet profits to take under the mattress... big time crashes don't happen overnight.
