Bernard,

Conspiracy theories on convertibles abound. The only theory that I have seen that makes any sense is to short a stock and cover with converted stock.

The theory that they want to tube the price so that they can convert to a large number of shares is silly. Why not drive the stock down before hand and then just buy that many shares at the lower price with the money that you didn't lend them in the first place?!? It would be better to do so because one would be reducing the float (outside of what one owns) as opposed to increasing it.

P.S. I don't think that Zeev's response took an exact position one way or another.
