BEFORE THE BELL -Inktomi surges in pre-open

NEW YORK, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Inktomi Corp. INKT , an Internet software maker, rose sharply higher in pre-open trading Wednesday, following an announcement late Tuesday that its board of directors approved a two-for-one stock split.

Shares of Inktomi surged 14 percent t0 145 on the Instinent electronic trading system, up from Tuesday's close of 127.
