The light in Vermeer is good. Did you see the travelling show? I got a kick out of seeing how he used the same props (Oriental rug, chair) in different paintings, and how the same window figured in so many of them. I liked the relaxed attitude of the subjects, I think they must have really liked him, which I liked, too. My favorite was the lady with the red hat, she looked like someone I would have enjoyed talking to. And I coveted, seriously coveted the pearls everyone was wearing. South Sea Island pearls, natural, worth a fortune today. He could really paint a pearl.
