Edwards and Magee "Technical Analysis of Stock Trends" which was originally written in the 1940s. They see a double top as two peaks weeks or months apart and a reduction in volume in the intervening period. Other people use "double top" in the sense you are using it. What significance do you see to a double top? To me if the distance between peaks is this kind of distance then there doesn't seem any reason why the trading range can't go on for some more "peaks".
