The head and shoulders on Dow was obvious and SPX was heading down with a second lower top. So I was very short which lost me a stack of money. I am now been trying to reposition and getting pretty skeptical of the usefulness of these traditional patterns. Sometimes you see one that is working and then you can try to get on board before the move is over. But without a tremendous amount of experience and even with that I don't think you can rely on such formations to make all your decisions. Maybe things were more predictable back in E&Ms day and in todays bigger market there is more efficiency and the patterns less often develop as expected.
