Life at the mill was and is still pretty basic. There are single and double occupancy ghers (large round felt-lined tents) with power. There is satellite television, vcr's, pool tables kitchen and wash facilities. There is also some of the greatest outdoor experiences (hiking, hunting, fishing etc.). Some of the counties sights (Gobi Desert, Lake Khovsgol, Bayankhongor hotsprings, to name a few) are incredible. Bumbat was constructing more permanent accomodations, and has completed 3 two-storey wooden buildings on concrete foundations, but this was been suspended. The mine site is a 3 to 4 hour drive from Ulaanbaatar, but many other mining sites in the Zaamar region have Russian, Australian, Canadian, American, and other expats around. The Mongolians are extremely hospitable, and are very proud of their country and their history. Mongolia is not without problems, but they are no worse than what we might find in our own backyard. MGR's problems are being resolved, and although the POG and other external problems can't be changed now, we're comfortable that Mongolia will one day shine. The country has the assets, the people have the desire and the will, and also recognize that their road to success will not be without detours. A very pragmatic people. Dave
