Re: rollout of new, faster Celeron chips in the first week of January, sources said.....

New products tend to boost the technology shares.

From Intel:

In the first quarter of 1999, Intel will continue its path of innovation with the introduction of a processor code named "Katmai". This product will be targeted at the desktop market segment and will be introduced at 450 and 500MHz. It will also include Katmai New Instructions, a set of 70 new instructions designed to enhance 3D, imaging, and video applications.

Also in Q1 of 1999, Intel will introduce a processor code named "Tanner." Tanner will also have the Katmai New Instructions, and will be targeted at the mid-range and higher server and workstation market segments.

In the 1H'99, Intel will deliver additional speed updates to the Intel Celeron processor family.

In the Mobile PC market segment, Intel will offer the first Intel Celeron processors for basic Mobile PCs in 1H'99. On the performance side of this market segment, Intel will introduce a mobile Pentium II processor running at 333MHz in 1H'99.
