Bikers Dream unveils Internet sales plan

Reuters Story - December 30, 1998 10:34

RIVERSIDE, Calif., Dec 30 (Reuters) - Motorcycle maker Bikers Dream Inc. said Wednesday it plans to launch an interactive Internet site to sell motorcycle parts and accessories.

The company's formal announcement came a day after its chairman, Herm Rosenman, told Reuters that Bikers Dream shortly would be unveiling an e-commerce web site. Expectations of the move sent the company's stock soaring more than 200 percent Monday.

In a news release, the company said its Internet site remains in the testing phase but should be operational by February 1999. Rosenman had described the effort to Reuters as "run of the mill."

"Our emphasis will be to offer motorcycle enthusiasts a broad range of parts and accessories, including a great line of custom proprietary parts," Rosenman said in the release.

The site also will allow consumers to view Bikers Dream's line of Ultra Cycles, locate dealers and obtain credit approvals for motorcycle purchases. Customers located outside the company's store and deal territories will be able to place orders for motorcycles at the site, as well.

Shares of Bikers Dream dropped 59.375 cents to $6.25 in heavy trading on Nasdaq.
