Not so. First Call (31 brokers solicited) est. eps current qtr. = $1.06. Following from Intel earnings history page:

Fourth quarter revenue of $6.5 billion set a record, and was up
from $6.4 billion for the fourth quarter of 1996. Net income was
$1.7 billion for the fourth quarter, down from $1.9 billion for the
comparable period a year ago. Earnings per share in the fourth
quarter were $0.98, down from $1.06 in the final quarter of 1996.
