Intel sells shares of CNET, Inktomi -- SEC filings
Reuters Story - December 30, 1998 14:21
WASHINGTON, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Intel Corp. , the world's largest computer chip
maker, recently sold 201,253 shares of CNET Inc. for about $12 million and 242,500
shares of Inktomi Corp. for nearly $34 million, Securities and Exchange Commission
filings show.

An Intel spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the company sold shares in CNET,
which produces an online news service, and Inktomi, an Internet software company.
He characterized the moves as a routine part of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company's
investment strategy.

"We like to invest in companies that have the potential of growing the overall computing
market segment," Robert Manetta said. "That's generally the reason that we invest in
these companies. Obviously we also like to see a financial return if we can get it as well."

Intel held 401,253 shares of CNET as of Sept. 30 and beneficially owned 801,414 shares
of Inktomi as of the same date, Manetta said.

CNET currently has about 17 million shares outstanding while Inktomi has about 23 million
shares outstanding.

Intel sold 65,000 CNet shares on Dec. 21 for nearly $4 million, 60,000 shares the next day for
$3.5 million, 50,000 shares on Dec. 23 for $3 million and 26,253 shares on Christmas Eve for
$1.4 million, according to the regulatory filings.

It sold 21,000 Inktomi shares on Dec. 18 for about $2.8 million, 127,500 shares on Dec. 21 for
$18.3 million, 20,000 shares the next day for $2.7 million, 24,000 shares the day after that for
$3.2 million, and 50,000 shares on Dec. 28 for $6.9 million.
