Bill and DMA,Geez, even a quick search of AP news wires would have cleared that up for you. Here are a few that pop up: First of all, I dont know how to do that. Are you just looking on the web? Or do you have to log in to AP or something? When I need an old article from somewhere, I usually just ask Borzou. All I can tell you about this comet collide story is that anyone who was overly concerned (or hysterical) about the matter got their news from 1) msnbc - the promoters or 2) Drudge. I condemn those 2 sources of this misinformation and btw I also think it is in very bad taste to spread disaster rumors. What I mean when I say the reporters reported on Drudges reports of the story is that news agencies feel obligated to comment on these matters once the story breaks . Otoh they will not break the story themselves. In this case msnbc and Drudge I think simultaneously "broke" this story. AP did not (well how could they since msnbc made it up). They did comment on it, as you have illustrated - I see these as falling into the camp of "somethings happening - more later". Compare that to Drudges - THE SKY IS FALLING approach. Too bad I dont have the original Drudge Report on this matter which was on the intel thread a few months ago. I was able to find Drudges retraction which even then illicits sensationalism. Mainstream Media:small chance of large asteroid smashing Earth Earthlings need to keep an eye on a mile-wide asteroid that will zip very close to the Earth in 30 years and could even smash into the planet, causing widespread destruction, Drudge:MSNBC: COMET STREAKING TOWARDS EARTH! There are late reports tonight that a massive comet is believed to be on a direct collision course with planet Earth! MSNBC is reporting exclusively that the U.S. Government has been secretly preparing for a possible comet/Earth collision for more than a year. MSNBC pleaded with stunned viewers not to panic Are you saying you dont see a difference between these 2 approaches to this dubious story? This is the way the mainstream media always handles these questionable issues - like Genifer Flowers etc. They always say, this is happening, we dont know much yet. It is the enquirer and Drudge that blurb it out as fact, imo they are the only ones to do that. I did find part of a dialog about this on the intel thread from a few months ago. The second one is Drudges retraction... the first part of the post was Drudges original story, then the retraction follows. Unfortunately the poster replaced the original with this one so I cant prove the top part was Drudges original - but it was. BTW the amazing part to me on this was that this was so obviously a rip off of When Worlds Collide, I thought every 60s kid would get it - isnt Drudge in his 30s?exchange2000.com exchange2000.com exchange2000.com
