Keith, with respect to your observations:

<won't AMD have to do a similar deal with S3 on the patents? After all, if AMD is going to keep up with Intel, they will have to overcome the same technical hurdles of moving data in and out of the CPU.

Can we expect to see some relationship with AMD/S3? Would it make any sense for AMD to try to acquire S3?>

There was a period about last Spring and Summer when there were daily talks with S3/AMD and weekly talks with Intel, so much so people in the know were telling me AMD were going to buy S3. As of yet that has never happened and around the time S3 bought the Exponitant(sp)patents all talks with AMD seemed to stop. What does that mean?? I'm not sure, yet. What I do know is things at S3 have not been happening by accident since Terry (x-ceo)took over around last Jan. 98. He put a business plan in place to put S3 back on the map and I'm not talking via a product cycle. Listen to Terry conference call again last April or July. Very Interesting what Terry said: "we are taking steps to insure we never again miss a product cycle and to always leap frog the competition". Think of those statements in light of the Intel partnership. I know some of the pieces of the pizzle but there are still holes, so I'm not really sure what direction S3 is headed yet. I guess I would say "stay tuned" something is brewing as we speak at S3, look for a meaningful announcement from S3 as early as January 99.
