Good Point... "PCS, CDMA" doesn't make much sense... PCS is not a digital wireless technology, just the frequency band... maybe they're saying that Hong Kong has cellular CDMA (800 MHz) and cellular PCS (1900 Mhz), in addition to GSM and D-AMPS.

Regarding your other question: Japan has been using PHS for ages and beginning in early summer 1998 they've started deploying Cellular CDMA... DDI/IDO are the major carriers there who've aggressively launched CDMA in Osaka and elsewhere and later, in 1999, in Tokyo... The launch involves Motorola infra. equipment and a bunch of cool Japanese manufactured phones all powered by Qualcomm's MSM ASICs!! (MSM 2300 and 3000)... Very promising market!!
