Skelly: Winds have been relatively calm last few days, so wind chill is not a factor right now. The work goes on all right, just more slowly and carefully. Trucks stay running, furnaces, wood stoves, and boilers keep chugging, people put on more layers, and cover up to reduce exposure. It's kinda like workin' underwater in a dive suit. As long as ya got a warm spot happenin', and lights and the proper gear it's not so bad. It also depends on what activity your up to. Modern technology has brought us amazing ability to adapt to the cold, but there is no substitute for common sense, thus in the real bitter cold everything usually grinds to a halt except for essential services. The winter solstice is now behind us, so each day gives us a bit more light to work with. These type of conditions are one of the reasons exploration companies like to wait for February, March and April for the winter work. By that time there is lots of ice and daylight and while it can still be bitter cold during those months, there are usually more days for productivity. There is no point having all your camp infrastructure up and running if it's so cold and dark that everyone has to just sit around in camp. Not very economical. On the other hand some stuff just has to get done ... timetables, schedules an' all you know, so ya just go out there and do it, hopefully with as little grief as possible. Temp is due to warm up to mid -30's over next few days, with a daytime high of -25 day after tomorrow. L8er regards Taz PS: Skelly .... everytime I see your posts I can't help but think of Agent Scully on the X Files, sorry 'bout that. Yer not any relation by any chance eh!? Tazmulder
