Gary, you hit the nail on the head.

"When people read this one and realize that Qwest's being criticized for expanding to fast, maybe we'll reach 60 to 75."

Merril Lynch is showing its ignorance once again. Just like them putting down INTC, then letting it run up about 50% and belatedly/graciously <ha ha ha> telling their clients to "Accumulate".

Individual investors that are long QWEST will be rewarded in '99

Regards,
Brian

I don't get it! At the close yesterday Merrill comes out with a report which states that earnings will be much less than they originally thought. There did not seem to be much positive in what they said. And then QWST goe up today! Of course it was down more yesterday. Is it a nobrainer that this report was leaked?? Why the up action today?

I've been long since the IPO. :-) Can anybody explain this?

Gary, you are right on the money.

Bill McGowan (founder of MCI) once was asked early in MCI's evolution: What business are you in? Bill responded with something like: "I'm in the business of building a huge, unprofitable network -- and then filling it up!" It sure worked for McGowan and it seems to be the same strategy for QWST.

The analysts like this ML guy seem so focused in the intermediate term bottom-line implications... ridiculous for a company that is on a mission like QWST where they know the pay-off comes in 2-5 years. But these institutional opinions also provide the "wall of worry" that great stocks like QWST like to climb.
