I agree with you. However, you have to consider the vice-like grip of the extreme right. That is why I don't think that Trent Lott will be able to get this Senate trial completed by Jan 22, 1999. He is much too weak to have things his way... My friends point out to me, another right-wing party in another country that is going through its own death-throes -- the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India that has virtually become a hostage of extreme right-wing outfits such as the VHP, RSS etc. (India's equivalents of the Christian Coalition etc.). It will be very interesting to see how things play out there...
