Miningco.com Files Plan to Strike Gold

Miningco.com, Inc., which operates the eponymous search engine website, has filed with the SEC to raise as much as $50 million in an IPO.

The New York City-based company is a leading Internet news, information and entertainment service. According to Media Metrix, over 4.2 million unique users visited Miningco.com in November 1998, making it the fourth largest news/information/entertainment site.

The company's network is comprised of over 600 GuideSites, each of which focuses on a specific topic and is managed by a knowledgeable human guide. The GuideSite network also contains original content that is created regularly by these "guides" on thousands of subjects.

In its filing with the SEC, the company stated that its site has "more than 400,000 pre-screened links" to other web sites.

The offering will be led by underwriter Bear, Stearns & Co., with Volpe Brown Whelan assisting. MiningCo.com has made an application to list its shares on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol MINE.
