Bob, can you actually prove that your statement is true? <I think God made man with a brain and after the fall over time we have lost the use of much of it. That has caused us to lose vast amounts of knowledge including knowledge about God, our universe and our own abilities. The bible predicted that in the last days before Jesus's return that knowledge will increase. No one can deny that these last 150 years we have made huge advances in knowledge and even the last 50 years we seem to be on the high end of the curve with advances in most areas going at breakneck speed.> I realize we have a lot of new technology during the twentieth century, but has our knowledge really increased that much? Our technical ability to do things seems to have leapfrogged way ahead of our ability to analyze advances on an ethical basis and determine whether they are wise, for example. Also, I think that modern man tends to credit himself with all the new discoveries, whereas in fact there were many civilizations historically, even thousands of years ago, which were quite advanced scientifically and medically. Perhaps a much more typical pattern is to make advances, have your society destroyed either by laziness, greed or some outside force, and then for another group to rediscover your knowledge as your group perishes or retreats into yet another dark age. I am having a problem with your argument that God made people with brains, and that "the fall" caused us to lose our brain power. Certainly, the Christians coming into Europe and killing all the inhabitants who would not give up their pagan religions represents a dark age, even though on a time line it occurred very recently. The Pope imprisoning Galileo for arguing that the world was not a flat plane at the center of the universe does not seem to be much of an advancement, either. If the God of the Christians is the true God, why did those things happen? Scientists studying the newly famous Ice Man, the one that was discovered in a melting glacier in the Alps a few years ago, have discovered that the tattoos on his body were markers for medical treatment of his diseased joints. They also found that he was carrying herbal medicines for treatment of intestinal parasites. Again, on a time line this is five thousand years ago, before the advanced civilization of ancient Egypt. He was receiving better medical care than most people do on the earth today, where forty thousand children die every day of diseases like diarrhea because they live in societies which cannot afford to treat or even feed them. Of course, this suffering would not be quite so prevalent if the Christian right would stop interfering with the U.N.'s international family planning programs.
