"The Qualcomm patent that Motorola has been contesting broadly describes a
non-terrestrial, i.e. satellite based, application of CDMA. It is a very early and very
general patent which I believe Motorola is concerned with due to its announced
intention to eventually migrate Iridium from TDMA to CDMA."

Hi Gregg,

I was not aware of Iridium/Motorola's intent to migrate from TDMA to CDMA, and could not locate a news release announcing such. Was this a public announcement made by Motorola? If so, could you please steer me in the right direction or provide a link? Thanks.

Ron

Thank you for your responsible and insightful information about the disputed QUALCOMM patent. It appears that the content in Wireless Week about this particular situation seems to be slanted to benifit the European incumbent Ericsson.Your statement about the satellite usage and applicability of the patent in question clears up the notion that this may hinder QUALCOMM's progress ,in the negotiations with ETSI and ITU officials. Once again QUALCOMM becomes the David facing the Goliath in a battle been described by the press as the long-shot victory that QUALCOMM is unlikely to prevail in. Even with all of this happening ,one only has to think back to the days of the Frezza and Ericsson white papers damning to Code Division Multiple Access.QUALCOMM has arrived as a tremendously successful technology company despite Ericsson and there Anti-Qualcomm retoric trying desperatly to prevent the eventual strangulation of GSM.One only wonders how many millions ERICY budgets to there PR department to Anti-QUALCOMM activities. The press seems bent on not giving a front row seat to QUALCOMM . I have been a shareholder since 1991 and have been buying ever since.QUALCOMM has made tremendous strides despite incredible blockage launched by the GSM heavyweights.HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
