All,

Ah, the Rose Parade . . . what happy memories of carefree youth and of gentler times in Southern California that evokes in my mind's eye!

New Year's Eve would find me and a big bunch of my high school cronies, camping out on Colorado Boulevard, ostensibly to ensure bird's eye views of the Rose Parade, but in reality an excuse for all-night, nonstop partying in the streets, with the tacit approval of our unsuspecting parents. This was an annual tradition, and the partying was quite tame, really, by today's standards. By the time the Parade started, most of us were fast asleep under our quilts and sleeping bags on the Pasadena curbstones. I don't believe any of us ever saw much of the actual Rose Parade. Some of us did make it to the Rose Bowl games, however.
