Michael re: <im sorry to say , but i recently bought an extra celeron for overclocking purpose , they were dirt cheap here in europe and K6-3 is still a month away or something...But this 300a already clocks to 504 stabile, 560 with increased voltage and does a 5 second boot into windows with 600 mhz so why shouldnt next generation 366 mhz not overclock to 550 ?> hehe, we all need more speed don't we? Sometimes I think computers are the modern 'hot rods.' Instead of talking about our carburetors, we discuss our cpus and video cards. I don't doubt you can overclock your 300a to 504, I've seen so many posts on the gaming boards to the same effect. My point is, of course, that if Intel clocklocks the new celerons, it has much more to lose. AMD chips are less overclockable. Although I didn't have much time last night I tried to run my k6-2 350 at 4x multiplier for 400mhz and was unsuccessful. I didn't, however, increase the voltage or mess with the bus speed (just didn't have the time to do things right). Maybe if I have some time this evening I'll try increasing the voltage. IMO, Intel is dumping the slot 1 celerons in preparation of the higher bin socket 370 models. Once these are gone, all the quake-heads will be forced to buy more expensive processors to get higher bins. Whether they buy Intel or AMD will be interesting to see. I know that the second Anandtech k6-3 review did a lot to discourage gamers from the chip. Too many games are fpu intensive and let's face it....a lot of 3dnow support is crappy or non-existent (btw mmx blows....so that discussion the other day doesn't pass the straight-face test). 3dnow is great technology (one need only look at the significant performance improvements when implemented correctly; cf. MMX). Let's hope the implementation is improved. One other gamers' issue is the video card. The TNT cards do not show good #'s on super7 Mbs (and compatability issues have also arisen). The voodoo cards do perform well with super7, but I hate the 2/3 card solution. Perhaps when the Rage Fury comes out with 3dnow drivers will we see a more level playing field. Until then, I expect to see most gamers go with a 300a solution. But the one thing I'm happy to see are the great winstone98/99 numbers for the k6-3. We all know that the real margins are in the business market. I'd really like to see the k6-3 used in business machines and for AMD to make some inroad into that market....in preparation for the K7. Sorry for the ramble...... -Scot
