><>...Hi Dan...><>

How have you been my good brother.

A mezuza is a parchment inscribed with verses from the Bible. It is rolled up and inserted into an ornament-like case( these cases can be very pricey and very ornate)and they are attached to the door post of a Jewish home.It is very important in Jewish traditinon to attatch it in a very specific place on the dood post and it must be place on an angle. It is actually a very big selling item. Many are designed in silver and gold.

Deut.6:4-9 is written on this very small parchment.
The word mezuza actually means doorpost.

The idea is take from Deut.6:9...It has been accepted by most Jews as a direct command of God to do it literally.
Deut 6:9
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

It is ritualistic in nature, in that all who come into and go out of the home should kiss the ornament as a reminder of God's laws

In midieval times mystics added three cryptogrammatic words to the bottom of the observe side of the mezuza below the word Shaddai. These words Kozu,Adonoy, Elohenu Adonoy, meaning the LOrd our God is Lord. The words kozu bemuchasz kozu, believed by the mystics to have a secret magical meaning.
The custom continues to this day.

Have a most blessed New Year.

Sincerely,
Shalom...><>
