[OT - sorry, AMAT guys!]

Mary, you are right that I find it difficult to conceptualize selling short or buying puts. I have said it enough. It would be like driving backwards, looking in the rear view mirror. BUT, if you read Michael Burke's older article, something like "Tech Investing with A Belt and Suspenders," he advises investors who are bullish on a stock to use calls. I don't know whether you, personally, use options, but some of the things MB talks about are actually very elegant and sophisticated ways of protecting your long investments. I am not ready to try them, yet, but once I really understand the technique, you better believe I will use them to hedge my longs. Mike Burke has a black belt in hedging, and we are lucky to have him.

I appreciate the kind intentions behind your posts. Happy New Year to you, and to you too, AMAT bulls, adios.
