Doug - Re: " I've been thinking about Intel's transition to .18 micron and I'm wondering how long it will take to happen. Intel keeps on saying that this is going to be the fastest ramp up yet. Do you agree?"

It will be a fast ramp - I don't know about "fastest".

However, my guess is that Intel is MUCH FURTHER ALONG than their public statements have indicated.

Intel was making a 0.18 micron CPU product about 4 months ago - using a shrunken version of the 0.25 micron product - and only 5 metal layers (the full 0.18 micron process uses 6 metal layers).

My assumption is that one of the products announced during the Jan 4 to March 1 time frame will be a "stealth" 0.18 micron product.
We will have to look at Vcc and power consumption specs to "decipher" which product that is.

Re: " I think Klauer will always be second rate."

Erika Klauer predicted AMD will earn $3.85/share in 1998 and hit $90/share stock price in 1998.

With just a few hours remaining in 1998, I think her estimates are DEAD - of course, these were made in 1997.

That gives you a calibration point for Erika "Clowner".
