I think that options traders are crooked scalpers.

As I have admitted before, I don't know much about this racket.

But for the last couple of hours I have had in a bid at 2 1/4 for some way out of the money LEAPS on Yahoo: .yzymi

When my bid went in, the CBOE quote price did rise to 2 1/4 bid, and the ask promptly went up 1/8 to 2 5/8.

But since then the "ask" on their screen has several times tipped below my offering price and no transactions have occurred. I saw it as low as 2 1/16, I think. I have a printout in front of me that shows the ask at 2 3/16.

I think my order is being used as a reference point to beat around, and that someone is trying to pick up some contracts below my offer and then deliver them to me. My broker's quote system still shows 2 1/4 bid (my bid) and 2 5/8 ask.

I think the only way to do this sort of thing is to take the asked price on the phone with the broker, if that's what you are willing to pay.

What do you folks think of my thinking?
