Pal, you do not understand few basic things. First is the meaning of words prefixed with "will". Have you ever been taught
about "future tense"?
Second, the phrase "up to 2MB", when used within salesperson
or marketing context, usually means that the exact value
is not available, only 512k maybe. If you read on,
you may find something like
"..processors as they become available in 1999".

Judging by pricewatch, Intel is having difficulties
producing 1-MB L2 at 450MHz. This is a fact.
The message I was trying to send you is that
your famous Intel technology is having a
ceiling at 450 MHz for their proprietary L2
"full-speed" cache. You just can't go to
a "full speed" L2 cache for 1-GHz processors.

Also note:
"At the same time, Compaq is readying for a January
announcement its Alpha DS20 server, as well as a
long-awaited XP 1000 workstation."
