who said that Bell would necessarily market their commercial customers the same as their residential? Tarriffs are involved. The commerical guys may be forced to pay more regardless of the speed of residential service. Subsequently Bell wouldn't canabilize their high cost T-1s by selling ADSL into residences. I believe this is what will happen. It will piss some people off......but oh well who said life was fair.

dug--

i dont think they are really worried about T1 revenues...remember that T1 is symmetric. so, i dont see everyone dropping their t1 circuit in favor of an ADSL line.

at any rate, the market for consumer ADSL service is much larger than the T1 market. PLUS, there arent the QOS concerns inherent in a leased line.

all in all, the telcos have been complete fools in dealing with ADSL. the ball could have been rolling 2 years ago...instead, they spent their time with IBs trying to structure stupid deals.

one funny thing...the rumor mill in austin is spinning some interesting things...word has it that the state is about to hand SBC their balls on a plate. the regulators are so upset with how SBC is running california as opposed to texas that they are ready to tell SWB to open up or surrender facilities to the state.

sounds outlandish, but thats whats being said. somebody is pissed they cant get cheap high speed in austin<G>. in all seriousness though, i think it has more to do with the fact that SBC has been bleeding its home area for years to fuel its expansion out of the area.

good luck to all,
trey
