Frank,
I have to agree with Ski. Were did you get that BS about investors
moving out of other graphics companies, especially ATI. The other
graphics companies are emulating ATI's business model (designing
chips and manufacturing the boards...ie 3DFX).
Another thing - Intel is not getting out of graphics. On the contrary
they will be a force to be dealt with. I do not know what nail you think you hit on the head but you are wrong about Intel getting out of graphics. In the near future Intel will be releasing CPU's with
graphics built in the CPU. At first it will be aimed at mainstream low end systems and mid range systems. That is were ATI and S3 play.
Why do you think S3 wants to design Multimedia CPU's like Cyrix.

It kinda bothers me when I see posts hypeing a stock from someone
who was hypeing when it was $10-$12, dropped out of sight when it
crashed and then popps up saying I told you so when the stocks seems to be on the path to recovery. Everyone is welcome to a opinion
but lets try to keep some reality.

Personally - I bought a little at $8.5 (stupid)and a little more
at $6 3/8. I will buy on the dips. S3 moving in the right direction
for a change. Intel move very positive but now S3 has to make it on
their own. There is no OEM wins for Savage. Savage2 and the chips
that come after have to make S3. They need OEM design wins and that will not happen until Q299 so they have this quarter and next quarter
of losses. Hopefully Q299 they can back to being profitable.
Happy New Year to all

Ski:

<Frank, With all due respect, your medication is wearing off.>

I can't argue with your first post :-), after all I still own over 10,000 share of S3 :-(

<Per your previous post: "...major investors are moving out of the
other graphic companies (ATI, TDFX) but are doing so in ways
not to create a panic or disrupt the stock price..."

Do you have any data to back that up ?>

Yes, I do, but if I told you I'd then have to kill you (only kidding about the killing part, but I am starting to see info that would confirm my statement)

<I counter with the fact that ATI just was placed into the main Index for the Toronto exchange (TSE 60) and the institutions will be moving even further in with all their index funds.>

Ski, first I don't claim to pocess all known info or facts, often I have some pieces of the puzzle and part of the facts. Sometime 10% sometime 40% some 90%, so I post here on SI to see if additional info can be found to give me a better picture of the whole.

<The ATI stock price has been moving upwards over the past month>

I'm not surprised, think back to when S3 was trading at $23-$25 an all time high.......right before the company was about to be in its worst position in their history.

<I think partially due to the institutions increasing their
positions.>

Or maybe with so many companies that are on the verge of a change of direction, the institutions who have a large percentage of info run up the price using "rear view" thinking and PR or maybe in ATI's case adding it to and index so they can starting unloading their position into strenght. Just a thought.

< I don't believe we've seen an exodus of investors recently.>

I agree, I wouldn't use the word "exodus" just yet, but then all info is not yet filtered down to the average investor.

With warmest personal regards,

Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year,

I remain,

Your obedient student,

Frank
