The first case of child abuse in this country was tried under a cruelty to animals statute. Abortion has always been the primary method for stopping an unwanted pregnancy until the pill. Alao to be considered is when does life begin at conception or birth. An interesting controversy arose in the 40's when a priest recognized the fact that caucasion women were aborting children as a method of birth control and minority women were not. Thus they were "outbreeding" thewhite race. This is thought by many to be the beginning of the anti-abortion movement. This argument was revisited by a priest in a New York newspaper a few years ago. Man did he ever catch some flack.
