Since my guru status (no debate, no disagreement to the winner's posts for one week) is really only in effect over on the YAHOO! board, I'll give an opinion over here at the risk of being challenged.

I agree with others who have the opinion that Nextel won't be acquired any time soon unless it is at a ridiculously high price. Craig isn't going to let this one go at this early stage of the game unless it is at a price that others just aren't willing to pay. Not yet, at any rate. Even the rather small chance that someone would be willing to pay a huge premium for NXTL today is another reason to hold onto the stock.

I also think that Nextel's IDEN network might be seen as a proprietary standard that no other large player shares, thus making them less desirable since their network couldn't be combined with others easily. But as the value of Nextel becomes more apparent with their continued success in building out their network and adding loyal, high ARPU subscribers, it won't matter what technology they're using, as long as their churn stays low and their ARPU high.

Now go out and celebrate this New Years Eve with the extra satisfaction of Nextel's performance on the last trading day of 1998!

TexasDude: Rumors are worth the paper they're written on. This company doesn't advertise anything, to a fault. No one, but a handful of people knows what CM will do (and maybe not even him). :-)
