Hi Amy,
I found your analogy very illuminating. I've owned PTEC since 96 when I bought it (unfortunately) at 19+. I've averaged down somewhat, but not enough to get excited about yet, even with the recent improvement.
It's not the only stock I own that is leading me on! iMMUNOGEN with its promises of a partner and treatments for cancer is another. When I read your post, it dawned on me that in some ways, I was still a social worker, not wanting to abandon a client! The fact that Jules believes in PTEC helps. However, I think you have an excellent point about getting out of unrewarding relationships in which you do all the giving! So another quarter or two and I'm giving back the letter sweater and class ring.
(Although I worry about you going out with that playboy, AOL. I think I'll try to date the chess club president.)

Thank you Amy,

Your, "At the time I sold my final shares in PTEC, I had a stronger belief in another stock. I wanted to buy more of it. I suspect that my
belief in that stock is as strong as your belief in PTEC. If I had
cash up the wazoo, I wouldn't have sold it."

And now???
Jules

Amy, it was nice to see a post like yours versus the flaming that goes
on at some of the other threads. When Jules and I were discussing
SKYM it was around 3 and our discussion was based upon fundementals
and their tactical and strategic models. Though I was aware of their
Internet potential what happened with the price explosion was not in
my investment model. I was looking for a three to four bagger out of
it so I grabbed the windfall on the second day and became history. I
dont confuse luck with competence. I think Jules read on PTEC for the
first quarter is solid and its why I took a position at six and change
for an intermediate hold (thats until maybe March and then a
re-evaluation). I have no particular price target on this but expect
that if the January analyst's meeting and the earnings announcement
are positive with a good forward outlook then we could see 10 to 12 or
maybe mid teens. If not then I dont fight the tape and will have
to re-evaluate. Thanks for your post.
