OK, can anyone explain Dec 31 when nasdaq 100 index was up 25.03 (1.38%) yet msft, intc, dell, wcom, and orcl were all down and csco was only up by 1/8? This index is mkt cap weighted and these are the top 6 stocks accounting for 62.31% of the index. It is quite astonishing that the other 94 stocks which account for only 37.69% were able to move the index up by 1.38%. Possible explainations:

1. This was the day aol was added to S&P and indexers had to sell nasdaq big caps to buy aol.
2. This was the first day of the coming small cap boom.
3. Your theory goes here.
