TexasDude: It remains to be seen if the ATI deal will have a lasting effect on N's stock price.

Most of us permabulls believed CM's vision was to become a full-service "bundled" worldwide company. Maybe that "vision" still exists. Maybe it no longer does. Only CM knows for sure. The way to become one of a handful of worldwide players is either through strategic mergers, strategic partnerships, joint-ventures, or do-it-yourself (least likely). CM's "other interests" (Teledesic, NXLK, L3) gave credence to the belief that one day, we possibly would be ONE. Today, that belief is questionable.

Consolidation in this industry is a given. There will finally be a few niche players, and a few megagiants. Where will N finally be is yet to be discerned.

Just my thoughts FWIW.

TexasDude,

There are major synergies between Bel Atlantic and Airtouch, but Nextel is using a proprietory technology that no one else is using. I can't think of any company that would be better off owning Nextel.

I think Nextel will have to make it on it's own.
