Very well explained. Please let me add to that. I personally recommend
having your short shares in a non-margin account. That eliminates any chance of having your short shares called in.
I believe also, that you should use a full service broker, and negotiate a much better commission. That should not be a problem as we're talking about lots a transactions.
The other reason to use a full service broker is so that your not stuck on the pc all day. When I want out of my office, I just tell my broker my max pain and max gain for that day. My guy monitors it very closely, and we've only had cross words on two occasions.
Discipline is mandatory for max pain. I've been working on 5k.
That's all I'll allow myself per hedged stock.
Lastly, I don't recommend this for anything, but Internet stocks.
They're volatile. There's big bucks to be made up or down while the volatility lasts.
Ps
To limit my losses I choose to keep the lid on my shares overnight. Even knowing that the big bucks could be on the gap up or down. If you could guess it right.
Unless your a prophet like Mary Meeker. One never knows what tomorrow brings.

Glenn>>when you are boxed there is no risk of a gain or a loss.<<
Technically!!
If you remember the day that the 'Thing' announced cd's. It took off for 2 straight days without any sell-off. I was just plain lucky to have my lid on my shorts. I was convinced that should have been an non-event as we all knew that was coming, so I assumed it was already in its over inflated price. That would have been a huge loss for me.
Trust me on that.
ps
I'm tempted to take the lid off my amzn long shares in the morning. I wish I had a feel for what the elephants are going to do.
My instinct tells me they'll stay for a few more months.
