Hi Zonkie, I believe E Trade charges $ 14.95 for limit orders on listed securities up to 5,000 shares and $ 14.95 for OTC companys online. When using the phone, the price goes up to $ 19.95 which I use more often. For me, the phone's quicker and I don't have to wait for the computer to warm up.

If any problems arise, phone, pc, or other, E Trade helps out quickly and I usually get through within a minute to 5 min average.
During the busiest of trading times, 15 minutes is about the maximum wait I've experienced.

Waterhouse Securities has more of a full service brokerage mentality than E Trade. The downside is that it takes me 5-30 minutes average to get through to them during heavy trading days. Lost time= lost $$$!
Waterhouse charges $ 35.00 for touchtone trading and $ 45.00 for broker assisted. Since I'm comfortable with the phone, I opt for E Trade and their assistance when needed. Each service has their place in trading. That's why I keep the two services.

Hope this helps guide you to do what's comfortable!
