Y2K: I was actually surprised to not hear of any utility failures. Certainly accounting will have big problems, but they back up files continually, so they are not affected as much as some could be.

A little company in Idaho and probably many more unreported small companies accounting programs failed. . . but those are easy to fix, too.

It will take some MAJOR companies reporting to shareholders that a portion of their systems have failed and that it could affect the performance of the company [and staock?] during this quarter. That will make people sit up and take notice. Samsonite had Y2K related problems bring the company to it's knees this past summer. . . and it
barely got any press at all.

We certainly need to keep our ears to the ground and post every related story that could give indication of the coming week. Y2K is a major part of our near-term strategy. . .so we need to stay on top of it more than most other issues.

As I have said several times, if Y2K is not seen as significant, then we go back to internets and speculative bubble stocks until Wall Street or the Fed makes a concerted effort to squash it.

MOST IMPORTANT THING: "Never believe your own hype."

If media DOES hype the Y2K problems of this week, do not panic and do not marry the Y2Ks. . .This will blow over so fast you won't even see it, IMO. Soon enough, we will be looking at earnings reports and earnings surprises again. Look at the long-term performance of Y2Ks over the past year. . . . terrible.

We will need to watch trends of the group as a whole throughout the coming year.

Anyway. . . going to change my calendars now. . .
