Kirk, the 500 has only been doing better because the small caps have been doing lousy for a prolonged period of time. However historically the small caps have gotten into multi-year periods of substantial outperformance and if you get more weeks like this week you would begin to feel like an idiot sitting in an underperforming Index500 just like people sitting mostly in small cap funds have felt like idiots by grossly underperforming. While I don't keep records on VTSMX I refer to my earlier post which shows how dramatically the small caps outperformed this week www3.techstocks.com Frankly I have moved to a mildly overbalanced position in small caps recently and while I don't specifically keep records on VTSMX I can guarantee you it handily outperformed the 500 this week Marc
